In the past, LifeNet has largely been supported by government programs and grants. However, with shrinking government funding we must look to individuals, churches, corporations and private foundations for almost half of our support.
We are not a “for profit” company, agency or hospital. We do what we do thanks to the generosity of folks like you. It is the gifts of our partners that assist in providing mental health services and housing for hundreds of formerly homeless people living in LifeNet supportive housing. Supported employment is provided for those who would otherwise be jobless.
The following priority programs at LifeNet that are currently under funded:
Supportive housing
Supportive Housing has provided housing for 316 clients this year. These include 131 in LifeNet Housing, with dozens more in Section 8 and Shelter Plus. Housing is in need of the following:
-
Pickup truck for Supportive Housing Maintenance Department $24,500
(present truck with over 106,000 miles is old and costing more to maintain than a new truck - Starter kit of basic household supplies $50 each x 300 = $15,000 total
(one basic household supply kit for each client beginning a new household in LifeNet Supportive Housing)
Clinical services
Funding to cover shortfall of cost of psychiatric services, case management, individual and group training, life skills training and transportation.
Supported employment
LifeNet’s Fairweather Supported Employment trains and employs those who have been unemployed for various reasons. With Fairweather training and supervision, our clients become successful, self-sufficient, pay their own rent and become part of the tax base. Fairweather currently employs almost 200, 79 of those being disabled. Fairweather contracts include cleaning government, public and private buildings and landscape maintenance for multiple properties. These include Plano and Collin County Government buildings, City of McKinney, City of Dallas, Texas Department of Transportation, Veterans Hospital, and the Meyerson Symphony Center.
Fairweather is in desperate need of the following:
- 15-passenger Vans: 2 Vans @ $32,500. = $65,000
for transporting Fairweather employees to and from their custodial and landscape jobs (present van is worn out with over 160,000 miles and is inadequate to transport a growing client population to and from work everyday) - Pick up truck to pull landscape equipment trailer: $24,800
(existing truck is under powered, has over 110,000 miles and costing more to maintain than a new truck) - Mowers
- Small Tractor, Leaf Blowers, Lawn Equipment & Tools: $18,700
(with additional new contracts we need more equipment and need to replace worn out old equipment.) - Small Trailer for transporting landscaping equipment: $3,500
Our metroplex is a challenging field of service. In order to continue exponential growth and remain at the forefront of effectiveness, we must provide for the most basic essential needs. With shrinking public funding and a growing client base, virtually all of LifeNet’s capital needs have been totally ignored for the past several years. Our immediate needs include “in house” technology, phone system and office furniture:
- Computer system, including a server network: $235,000
with 58 personal computers and 18 laptops (much of our current system is over a decade out of date – no internal email server network) - Phone system: $78,000
(no capability for automated client phone reminder notification for appointments and scheduling, client mass notifications, etc.) - Office furniture: $96,000
for office furnishings, files, chairs and conference tables for all employees; over 95% of LifeNet’s office furniture is other charities’ hand me downs or castoffs – most all desks have broken legs and drawers, file cabinets are broken, many chairs are soiled or broken and artwork is almost non existent.

Memorials and tributes
Memorial and tribute gifts are a unique way of saying something special to friends and family. This donation not only helps to support the many vital programs and services at LifeNet, but is also a wonderful way to pay tribute to, and express sympathy for, the loss of a special person, or to commemorate happy occasions such as birthdays, anniversaries, weddings, retirements or graduations, and even holidays such as Mother's Day or Father's Day. In any event, your thoughtfulness will be acknowledged immediately to the person (or person's family) you are honoring or offering a tribute. Memorial and tribute gifts are listed in each quarterly issue of LifeLines, the agency's newsletter.
Matching gifts
Many companies and corporations have matching gift programs that sometimes double or even triple the charitable contributions of their employees. Ask your employer about this program!
Gifts of stock
Gifts of stock and appreciated securities enable a donor to make a charitable contribution on a gift to LifeNet of appreciated stock.
Planned giving
Planned giving encompasses a broad range of deferred gift options that allow the LifeNet donor the satisfaction of supporting LifeNet's mission while at the same time enhancing his or her own well-being and providing significant tax advantages. Bequests, life income gifts, gifts of life insurance and charitable lead trusts are just a few of the planned giving options that are available to LifeNet donors.
